Magnetic Pulls

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

— Paul, Letter to the Christians in Rome

The attraction to the world is like a powerful magnet that seems to pull you towards it constantly. There are too many times when I give in and then wonder why God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will for my life is clouded.

As I think upon the mercies of God, which the author of Lamentations tells me are new every morning, I am reminded how good the Lord is to protect me from my foolishness, of which he is under no obligation to do so.

How do I resist the magnetic pull of the world? I successfully fight through renewing my mind, taking in God’s word — which transforms me. We should never be surprised when distracted and don’t want to read. The enemy knows that the less we read, the less we are transformed, thereby magnetically pulled toward and more conformed to a world of which he has been given temporary dominion.

Jesus defeated the enemy through his death and resurrection and thereby made way for us to overcome the world’s magnetic pull.

A contemplative look at my life reminds me of the times God spared me from my prideful foolishness. I write about the things I’ve discovered along the way.
